  • A 21-year-old aspiring pilot was found hanging in a deserted section of his family’s ancestral property near Girish Park on Thursday morning, triggering widespread sensation in the locality.

The deceased, identified as Soumyaditya Kundu, had reportedly returned home only a few days ago from South Africa, where he was undergoing flight training. According to the police, the body was discovered inside a neglected, unused room adjacent to Gate No. 3 of the Girish Park Metro station. Officers from Girish Park police station reached the spot shortly after being alerted by the family and local residents.

The body was sent to hospital for post-mortem. Family members said Soumyaditya left home around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. When he did not return even after several hours, his parents began searching for him. With repeated phone calls going unanswered, the family contacted his only close friend, who joined the search. “We tried calling him several times, but his phone was switched off. We contacted his friend and started looking for him. Using location tracking, we saw the phone was showing near Girish Park. We rushed there and broke open the lock of the room. That is when we found him,” said his grief-stricken father. Police sources confirmed that a tablet was recovered from the room. On its screen was a single word — “LOST” — typed prominently. Investigators, however, said it was too early to draw conclusions based on the message. The family, too, expressed shock, saying they had no inkling of any personal crisis he might have been facing.

Although preliminary investigations point towards suicide, officers have not ruled out foul play. “We are examining all angles. The circumstances of his death, the condition of the room, and digital evidence recovered from the device will be analysed,” a senior police officer said. Neighbours told police that the young trainee pilot would occasionally visit the old house, though he mostly stayed elsewhere. His sudden death has left the locality stunned. As arrangements were being made for the post-mortem on Thursday, Soumyaditya’s mother broke down inconsolably, clutching his belongings. The police investigation is continuing.
