BJP hits campaign trail with 1,500 street corners across state

Kolkata: On the first day of its month-long "Pahar Theke Sagar" campaign, Bengal BJP held nearly 1,500 street-corner rallies in each mandal (a cluster of 70-75 booths) across the state on Friday.
PM Narendra Modi, who met BJP MPs from Bengal on Wednesday, is likely to hold a rally in Ranaghat on Dec 20, state BJP netas confirmed. Party sources also pointed out that the campaign will involve inactive party veterans.
"The Ranaghat rally was planned before monsoon this year. It couldn't be held due to adverse weather conditions. The PM wanted to start from there," said a Bengal BJP functionary.
Taking lessons from Maharashtra and Haryana, the party brass asked Bengal netas to engage in a micro-level campaign this time. "We had traction in Maharashtra through the micro-level campaign structure. It was repeated during the Haryana election too. It is being replicated in Bengal this time. The difference is that in both these states the party was not in opposition," said another state BJP neta.
Bengal BJP will organize two rallies in each mandal next week, followed by three campaigns in a week. During the Haryana polls, BJP focused on micro-management by directly reaching out to voters at the grassroots level. From door-to-door canvassing to booth-level outreach, panna pramukhs and booth-level committees actively mobilized support by holding meetings with people.
In each of these rallies and street corners, local netas would address local issues. "We have asked them to focus on corruption at the micro level and how local Trinamool functionaries are siphoning off public money. The focus will be on Trinamool's corruption and its anti-Hindu agenda. After a month, we will hold campaigns at booth levels," the Bengal BJP neta said.
The campaign will also showcase achievements during the NDA regime and benefits from centrally sponsored schemes. "During UPA I and II when Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister, Bengal got Rs 2 lakh crore. During Modiji's regime, between 2014 and 2024, Bengal received Rs 8 lakh crore. People know the difference between the two govts," said state leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who was present at a rally in Purulia.
