Kolkata: Kolkata Police on Wednesday arrested three men from Jorasanko, cracking what officers describe as a nationwide "CEO SIM-swap scam" targeting corporate seniors.
The fraudsters allegedly cloned SIM cards of senior executives, created WhatsApp accounts with their photos, and instructed company finance teams to transfer large sums to designated accounts.
The racket surfaced when the head of a Kolkata-based MNC boss spotted an unexplained Rs 50 lakh transfer that staff cleared after a WA call mimicking his voice and identity. Lalbazar's cybercrime unit traced the operation to multiple states. Police believe several companies may have already been duped, prompting warnings to verify digital fund-transfer requests. tnn
