There is no trace of an undertrial prisoner imprisoned since June at the Serampore Correctional Home. He was detected missing during the routine roll call of prisoners at the Home this afternoon.
The missing middle-aged prisoner, Rajesh Haati, hails from Pyarapore village on the outskirts of Serampore. He was undergoing trial in connection with two Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) crimes committed at Rishra and Mogra.
On being informed, the Serampore Sub-Divisional Officer, Shambhudeep Sarkar, instructed the Home authorities to lodge an FIR at the Serampore police station. The Home authorities will hand over the CCTV cameras footage, recorded from in and around Home premises, to assist in search operations by the Serampore police.
