  • Kolkata: Bengal BJP is eyeing for a substantial increase in its vote share in the upcoming assembly polls and has renewed its focus on inducting members with strong public influence. Meanwhile, speculations intensified on Monday that several youth activists — including suspended Trinamool functionaries Rajanya Haldar and Prantik Chakraborty — may soon joinin BJP.

According to Bengal BJP sources, both Haldar and Chakraborty have been in talks with senior state netas. A committee, closely monitored by the party's Bengal minder Sunil Bansal, is currently assessing new inductions in the party. Over the past two weeks, the committee has received numerous applications for induction, said sources.

"BJP is a regimented party, and it is their decision. They will make it public when they choose to. I should maintain privacy about the process. We will abide by their decision," Haldar said on Monday.

BJP has formed a scrutiny committee, headed by state general secretary Locket Chattopadhyay, to evaluate all membership applications. "We will induct people who believe in nationalist principles. Our target is to increase BJP's vote share from 39% to 51% in Bengal. For that, we need new members. The committee will review applications from both non-political persons and those who are well accepted by BJP members," leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari said.

On Monday, former ISF functionary Ajay Kumar Das, tribal activist Sanjib Hansda, and retired police officer Bankim Biswas joined BJP.
