Anubrata Mondal, chairperson of the Birbhum District Core Committee of Trinamul Congress, along with Labhpur MLA Abhijit Sinha, visited Rampurhat Medical College Hospital on Sunday to meet Sunali Biwi.
The district leadership handed over her fruits, clothes and other materials, assuring that both the state government and the party would remain by her side. Mondal also spoke with the hospital superintendent and members of the six-member medical board formed by the state health department for her treatment.
The board comprises Professor Dr Piklu Choudhury, head of obstetrics and gynaecology; Professor Dr Anish Chatterjee, head of paediatrics; Dr Indrani Das, Assistant Professor of medicine; Dr Arup Ghosh, Assistant Professor of anaesthesiology; and Dr Iswar Chatterjee, Additional Medical Superintendent.
Palash Das, MSVP of Rampurhat Medical College Hospital, said Sunali Biwi is currently suffering from anaemia and has been prescribed medication. “All other parameters are stable, and if the recovery continues, she will be discharged soon,” he added.
Although Sunali Biwi was released from prison in Bangladesh following court orders, after being deported by the Delhi Police and BSF, her husband remains detained there, causing her concern. The TMC leadership assured her that the state government would intervene to secure his release at the earliest.
Her daughter, who had been staying with relatives in Birbhum, has announced that the family will now settle permanently in Birbhum and not return to New Delhi. Sources indicated that the state government is likely to provide employment to her husband once he returns from Bangladesh.
“We hope the four others detained in Bangladesh will also be released soon. Our local leadership has been directed to remain in daily contact with the family to extend all possible support,” said Anubrata Mondal.
Sunali Biwi had been lodged in a Bangladesh prison for about eight months.
