    Indian Express | 10 December 2025
  • Kolkata is set for a day of important administrative and political activity, starting with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal holding a special camp at Sonagachi, Asia’s largest red-light district, on December 9). Also, the political spotlight remains on TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, who is scheduled to address a rally at Cooch Behar’s Rasmela Maidan.

Lets take a look what all is happening today in Bengal.

The West Bengal CEO’s office will hold a camp on Tuesday at Sonagachi, Asia’s largest red-light district. DEO Kolkata North will hold a camp on Wednesday. For Marginalised Electors of the area of Sonagachi (Red light area) and adjoining areas under 166 Shyampukur AC for assisting to fill up the Enumeration Forms will be organised on 9th Dec from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm. The CEO will attend the camp at 11am. This initiative is part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and is a response to concerns raised by welfare organizations (such as Durbar Mahila Samanway Committee, Society of Human Development and Social Action, and Amra Padatik) that many sex workers were facing difficulties providing required documentation, such as proof of ancestry from 2002. The camp will address these issues to ensure all eligible voters are included in the electoral roll.

Chief minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will address a rally at Cooch Behar’s Rasmela Maidan on Tuesday. It is being considered as a significant move amid the party’s factional feuds in the district and people’s concerns surrounding the SIR process. Just a day before her public meeting, on Monday, Mamata Banerjee offered prayers at the historic Madan Mohan Temple in Cooch Behar after an administrative meeting. Meanwhile, a rally will be taken out of TMC women cell from Academy of Fine Arts to Dharmatala from 12.30.

On Tuesday, a BJP delegation, led by former All India Secretary Rahul Sinha, will visit the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) at 4 PM
