Kolkata: After days of holding on to his seat despite a party instruction, Bongaon municipality chairman Gopal Seth finally stepped down on Wednesday morning. Following this, councillors took out celebratory rallies .
With assembly polls ahead, TMC leadership directed several municipal chiefs to step down recently. While most complied, Seth refused to resign. Councillors eventually brought a no-confidence motion against him. Seth resigned before the floor test.
TMC's Bongaon district president Biswajit Das said: "Seth should have resigned much earlier. This has only damaged his image."
