Kolkata: A 23-year-old resident of Durganagar in North 24 Parganas, Alokesh Halder, died after he lost control of his bike on EM Bypass near Metro Cash & Carry at 1.30 am on Wednesday.
Cops said Halder was not wearing a helmet and was riding at a high speed from Dhalai Bridge towards Ruby crossing, when he lost control of his motorcycle.
According to eyewitnesses, Halder's motorcycle collided with a parked car near Singhibari junction opposite the Metro Cash & Carry building. The impact caused the bike to veer off course and crash into the road divider. The impact of the collision threw Halder onto the road, resulting in multiple injuries. Since Halder was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, it led to severe head injuries.
Police are also investigating if Halder was under the influence of alcohol or not.
Locals rushed to his rescue and shifted him to M R Bangur Hospital, where he was declared dead. Doctors said the head injuries sustained by Halder were critical.
The motorcycle involved in the accident was taken into custody by from Survey Park Police Station. However, the private car, bearing a registration number, left the scene before authorities could intervene.
Police are currently investigating the incident to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
