• Cabby traps man’s hand in window, drags him for 80 m

  • Kolkata: In a road rage incident on Dec 10, a 49-year-old man was dragged around 80 meters by a taxi after he confronted the driver for illegal parking around 7.45 am in front of the 3A govt bus stand in Thakurpukur.

    The victim, Premananda Mandal, a resident of Thakurpukur and a starter at the bus stand, was injured and subsequently treated at Vidyasagar State General Hospital in Behala. According to the complaint filed by Mandal, the altercation began when he approached the taxi driver, identified as Bijay Shaw, to protest against the illegal parking that was obstructing the path of govt buses and taxis. In a sudden turn of events, Shaw allegedly rolled up the car window, trapping Mandal's hand, and drove off, dragging him along the road. He drove for close to 80 meters.

    The police registered a case based on Mandal's complaint, and an investigation was initiated under the supervision of the OC of Thakurpukur PS himself.

    Despite the severity of the incident, the driver, Shaw, is yet to be traced.

    The police are continuing their probe to gather more evidence and witness statements to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the incident. The cops are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area to corroborate the victim's account and determine the exact circumstances under which the incident occurred.

    The incident has sparked outrage among local residents and commuters who frequent the bus stand.

    Meanwhile, Mandal is recovering from his injuries and has expressed hope that he can rejoin duty soon.
