Production at Ashoknagar oil field to start soon: Petroleum minister

Kolkata: Production at the Ashoknagar oil field project in Bengal will start soon with both ONGC and the state govts making efforts to finalize the deal, said Union minister of petroleum and natural gas Hardeep Singh Puri.
The minister said that with the Petroleum & Natural Gas Rules, 2025 being notified recently, he hopes issues related to stamp duty on lease and royalty would be "resolved".
Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour, Puri said the oil and gas discovery was made in 2018 and ONGC has spent Rs 1,000 crore on the project.
The state govt has paved the way for ONGC to start activities in the new oil and discoveries in Ashoknagar. CM Mamata Banerjee announced at the valedictory session of the last Bengal Global Business Summit that it had given land to the oil and gas major on lease for Rs 1.
