  • Kolkata: There was some relief for thousands of Behala residents, along with a large section of South 24 Parganas headed for Maheshtala, Amtala and Diamond Harbour, after the PWD told cops that it was handing over the Taratala flyover for normal use by Wednesday morning.

Overall, travelling to City Centre from Behala and back was easier on Tuesday compared to Monday after police started diversions from 7 am at Roy Bahadur Road, Sahapur Road, SN Roy Road, James Long Sarani, and Biren Roy Road to ensure the load was taken off Diamond Harbour Road. Cops also turned a section of Roy Bahadur Road one way for this reason.

"I spent 85 minutes crossing 3.5 km from Behala Chowrasta to Majerhat on Monday. On Tuesday, it took less than 25 minutes to cross this stretch," said Moumita Pal, who works at a tech firm in New Town.

The four-day shutdown of the Taratala flyover was necessary on account of load testing. The shutdown that began on Saturday evening finished a little after Wednesday midnight, an hour later than the original schedule.
