  • Nandigram: The draft SIR list for the Nandigram assembly constituency, where CM Mamata Banerjee had lost to leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari in the 2021 polls, has 10,599 fewer names compared with the 2025 voters' list that had 278,212 names.

The constituency has 3,317 ‘unmapped' electors, who have to submit documents to ensure their names figure on the final list.

Nandigram, in East Midnapore, came under national focus during the last assembly polls in Bengal after CM Mamata Banerjee lost to Adhikari by 1,956 votes. Adhikari has long been alleging that a significant number of names on the voters' list in the state are of "bogus voters".

Among the 10,599 voters whose names don't figure on the draft list, 4,529 have been marked as ‘dead', 4,876 had been marked as ‘shifted' and 1,111 as ‘absent'. The rest fall in other categories.

Neither Trinamool nor BJP has officially raised objections to the draft list. Both parties are monitoring the situation closely.

An all-party meeting was held at the office of East Midnapore's district magistrate after the list was published. The DM assured all parties that measures are being taken to ensure no genuine voter's names is excluded from the final list and urged all political parties to send their representatives to hearings.

Adhikari is a voter at booth 79 in Nandanayekbar. The local booth-level officer, Bijli Giri Roy, said, "So far, 11 names have been deleted in this booth. Six of them are no more, four have shifted and one is an ‘absent' voter. There are 700 names on the draft list."

Roy said seven people from booth 79 have been called to a hearing.

Meghnad Pal, BJP district general secretary, said, "Around 10,599 names have been deleted in Nandigram... We have no complaints about the list," he said. Pal said the DM's office called 1,733 individuals from Nandigram-I block for a hearing. "We are monitoring the process to ensure that no genuine voter is left out and no suspicious name remains on the list," said Pal.

TMC leader Sk Sufian said, "We have not yet received any complaints regarding the draft voters' list. However, many voters in every booth have not found their names on the draft list. They will be called to a hearing. We want to ensure that no valid voter's name is excluded."
