  • To assist travelers, the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport has launched a dedicated traffic advisory service on its official X handle.

“This initiative aims to alert passengers in advance about potential traffic jams or waterlogging on routes leading to the airport. Approximately 25,000 to 30,000 passengers arrive at the airport daily to catch flights, while an additional 5,000 people visit to drop off or pick up travelers. The airport’s IT team monitors travel times from key locations including Ultadanga, Chingrighata Crossing, Salt Lake Sector-V, Barasat, and Howrah and to help passengers it is being done,” said an airport official.

As per officials, on Tuesday, the airport’s handle on X started posting real-time traffic alerts. “The system includes warnings for heavy rain, waterlogging, and winter fog. It is designed to save thousands of passengers from missing flights due to delays,” said an official.

    How it works

An airport official explained that the system monitors the difference between “normal travel time” and “current travel time” using data similar to Google Maps. If a delay of 10 per cent to 20 per cent over the usual time is detected, an alert is issued immediately. This allows passengers to either choose alternative routes or leave home earlier.

During weekdays, these checks are performed every five minutes. During weekends, when traffic is lighter, the interval will be slightly longer. The airport has also intensified its focus on political rallies and festive seasons (like Durga Puja), where VIP Road traffic is heavily impacted.
