RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat will begin his four-day visit to West Bengal from today and is scheduled to hold a youth conference and organisational meetings.

He will start the visit from Siliguri in North Bengal, where he will attend a Youth Conference.

On Friday, he will hold internal meetings with RSS workers and leaders.

After spending two days in North Bengal, he will reach Kolkata, where he will spend the next two days holding organisational meetings.

With the release of the draft electoral roll following the survey round of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the second phase of verification will begin in the state today.

According to the Election Commission (EC), notices will be issued from Thursday. EC sources said that seven days will be given to the voters to respond to the notices. Hearings, therefore, are likely to start next week.

The state government will hold “Business & Industry Conclave” at the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium in Kolkata on Thursday. The conclave follows a traders’ meeting on Wednesday in which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, despite good work done by her TMC government, a section of people was trying to defame her and her party. She asserted that the state has emerged as the commercial capital of eastern and northeastern India, driven by strong MSME-led growth and its strategic geographic location.

The monthly session of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will be held on Thursday at 2 pm. Mayor Firhad Hakim, the Mayoral Council, along with ruling and opposition councillors, will be taking part in the session.

In July, the civic body had made it mandatory for its councillors to speak in Bengali during monthly meetings.

Earlier in March, the KMC renamed its “Bustee (slum) Services department” to “Uttaran Services department” following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s suggestion. The decision, aimed at moving away from the perceived negativity associated with the word “Basti,” received final approval during the KMC’s monthly meeting on March 22.
