  • Kolkata: Trinamool on Thursday dissociated itself from MLA Madan Mitra's comments on Lord Ram shared on social media by Bengal BJP.

Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "All of us know ‘Ramayana' and Ayodhya and we are not fit to comment on what Madan Mitra says." Earlier in the day, state BJP shared a video in which Mitra was heard making certain statements on Lord Ram on a public meeting. While Mitra did not speak, sources close to him immediately claimed the video was "false, fabricated and AI-generated". However, this is not the first time that Mitra has stirred up a row with his out-of-line statements.

While posting the video on X, Bengal BJP said: "This continuous abuse of our culture and history is not a slip of tongue! Rather it is a not-so-subtle message to illegal Bangladeshis, that TMC is the most ‘Hindu-birodhi' party, and therefore represents their beliefs." BJP also dared TMC to act against Mitra. While the latter refused to comment, sources close to the MLA claimed: "This is fabricated. What he said was that Lord Ram is above religion. This is being deliberately misconstrued."

Ghosh said, "When it is about Madan Mitra, we are not fit to comment on what he says. We have read ‘Ramayana', we know about Ayodhya, Lanka and also Sitamarhi. Beyond that, we have nothing to say. "
