20 voters, wrongly marked ‘deleted’, ‘dead’, denied forms

Kolkata: At least 20 voters from the Behala West assembly constituency, mostly from the Roy Bahadur Road area, were not given any enumeration form though their names were in the 2025 electoral roll, published in Jan. Nine of them even had their names in the SIR 2002 rolls. All those, who were marked as ‘dead' or ‘deleted', claimed they tried to get hold of the forms but were denied.
Confirming, an EC official said the names got deleted somehow and that they were asked to submit Form 6 so that they were included on the final list, slated for publication in Feb.
Trinamool councillor and KMC MMiC Tarak Singh wrote to the Behala West ERO on Dec 5, urging him to ensure the voters affected were not harassed. "Due to the fault of the EC, these voters were shown as dead/deleted due to wrong entry... depriving them of their voting rights," he wrote. Singh said the the 20 voters were not given forms, despite making several representations to the EC, and the ERO did nothing while the SIR process was on until Dec 11. Most of them were from KMC wards 118 and 119.
Singh said he again wrote to CEO Manoj Agarwal, special roll observer Subrata Gupta as well as to the Behala West ERO on Tuesday, urging them to restore the deleted names as they were not ‘dead' voters. "It is an utter violation of the People's Representation Act 1950 and 1951," Singh said.
The matter was also reported to the roll observer for South Kolkata and South 24-Parganas, C Murugan, who asked for a report from the Alipore SDO on the number of names deleted.
