• EC to cancel ‘erroneous’ notices to over 1.3 lakh voters

  • Kolkata: The EC has decided to give relief to over 1.3 lakh voters, who were erroneously issued hearing notices after their names, though present in the 2002 SIR, failed to appear in the BLO App due to technical glitches. An official said that the linkage of the 2002 SIR was not available in the app for many voters and thus they were marked unmapped, though they had either self or progeny linkage of the 2002 SIR. He said voters could be tracked from the hard copy of the 2002 SIR list but the BLOs failed to find them.

CEO Manoj Agarwal said the hearing notices generated due to such non-mapping would be cancelled and the EROs and DEOs, after verification of the extract of the 2002 SIR, may upload the documents to dispose of the cases.

"BLOs are to reverify and upload photo and documents," Agarwal said. If in some cases there are discrepancies with the hard copy of the list, voters will have to attend the hearing.
