• ‘Y+’ security for Bengal CEO, CISF personnel to guard office

  • Kolkata: The home ministry has decided to provide ‘Y+' category security to Bengal chief electoral officer Manoj Agarwal as there were regular agitations at the CEO's office. On Nov 24, there was a breach of security during the protests by a section of BLOs in front of the CEO's office.

The booth level officers had gathered inside the Balmer Lawrie building and gheraoed the CEO and other officials.

Earlier, the EC had asked Kolkata Police commissioner Manoj Verma to ensure proper security for the CEO's office. During the ongoing SIR process, there had been regular agitations. Some agitators had even tried to jump in front of Agarwal's car.

The EC thereafter wrote to the home ministry to enhance security cover and arrange adequate security for the CEO's office as it is going to be shifted to the Shipping Corporation building by the end of Jan.

An Election Commission official said that given the threat perception, the MHA decided to deploy around a dozen CISF men in front of the CEO's office.

They would be in close proximity to the CEO to handle any chaos, and around two of them might travel with the CEO.

"Once the CEO's office shifts to the Shipping Corporation building, entry inside the building would be restricted."
