Molester arrested on Christmas night was security guard

Kolkata: The man arrested for molesting a woman on Christmas night in the Survey Park area was a security guard who forcibly tried to kiss the woman while she was returning home from work. The woman and a group of locals chased the man for around 300 metres before they were able to nab him and hand him over to the police.
TOI briefly reported the matter on Saturday. According to police, the incident took place around 11.30 pm on Thursday when the woman, an employee at a food court outlet of a shopping mall on EM Bypass, was returning home after work. As the outlet remained open late on Christmas night, she left after closing hours and was walking past Satyajit Ray Metro station when the accused, Satya Halder, allegedly began following her.
The woman alleged that Halder, who was intoxicated, tried to forcibly kiss her. When she resisted, a scuffle broke out. The accused allegedly grabbed her by the throat, pinned her against a roadside pipe, and continued to assault her, police said. He is also accused of attempting to push her into a drain when she tried to break free.
The woman's screams alerted some locals, who rushed to her help. Police said the accused initially claimed that the woman was his girlfriend and described the assault as a ‘personal matter'. However, the woman managed to free herself and told those present that she did not know the man, urging them to stop him.
Police said Halder was attempting to board a train when he was overpowered by locals. Survey Park police, alerted by witnesses, reached the spot shortly afterwards and took him into custody.
