Teachers’ interview starts for state primary schools
Times of India | 31 December 2025
Kolkata: The West Bengal Board of Primary Education on Tuesday began the interview for teachers to be recruited to 13,421 posts in state-run primary schools.
The last recruitment drive was held in 2022.
The interview started with the English-medium category, which has 180 vacancies. The board verified the documents and held the interview simultaneously, and the entire process was video-recorded to ensure transparency. Five tables were set up for verification and five for interviews. On the first day, 135 candidates were called.
Several candidates who completed their diploma in elementary education (DElEd) before 2017 and also cleared the Teachers' Eligibility Test but were not called for interviews last time appeared this time. Some claimed they had already taken up teaching jobs outside the state but had now returned for the interview.
Achintya Mallik from Thakurnagar said, "I graduated in 2019 and sat for both the TETs, one held by SSC and the other by primary board. After waiting for three years after clearing TET in 2022, I went to Himachal Pradesh, where I teach at an English-medium school. I want to return to my state."
Bijon Majhi, who accompanied his wife, Sagarika Majhi, from Raghunathpur in Purulia, said the long gap between two recruitment drives increased the number of contenders, making the limited seats available a major concern.
