Kalyani: Sabina Yasmin, the mother of Class IV student Tamanna Khatun who was killed in a bomb blast, attempted suicide on Tuesday night due to alleged anxiety over the prolonged legal battle to bring her daughter's killers to justice. Sabina, who consumed multiple sleeping pills, is currently stable.
Tamanna was killed on June 23 by a bomb allegedly hurled at her during a Trinamool victory parade following the party's win in the Kaliganj bypolls.
Sabina's family members said she had been battling depression since her daughter's death and the ensuing delay in justice. "She feared for her family's safety too. Sabina has been mentally and physically shattered since Tamanna's death. Many of the accused are still roaming free, and that created constant fear in her," said Tamanna's uncle, Rabiul Sheikh.
On Wednesday morning, family members rushed Sabina to Krishnanagar's Shaktinagar District Hospital after finding her unconscious. Doctors later stated her condition was stable.
Tamanna's death had triggered statewide outrage, prompting CM Mamata Banerjee to order strict action against those responsible. So far, 10 people have been arrested.
