Burdwan: Three members of a family were killed and the driver was seriously injured after their SUV rammed at high speed into the rear of a stationary gas tanker on NH-19 near Bambat Tala on Thursday, police said.
The family was travelling from Durgapur towards Dum Dum airport. Police rescued the victims with the help of locals and took them to hospital, where the three were declared dead.
The deceased were identified as Sheikh Sahanawaz (27), Sheikh Mohammad Murshed (55) and Regina Khatun (51), residents of Durgapur City Centre in Paschim Burdwan district.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and police are investigating the cause of the accident.
