Howrah: Now an MLA who won the people's mandate in the last Assembly election in 2021 has been asked to prove her credentials.
The EC has summoned Trinamool MLA (South Howrah Assembly) Nandita Choudhary for a hearing and directed her to attend it at the District Library Hall in Howrah Maidan on Sunday, despite protests and documents submitted from her side.
Choudhary said, "I am shocked. I don't know what to say. Even though my PA went to the EC with all documents to protest, it was of no use. This has been done to fulfil vendetta because I am an elected MLA from the Trinamool. I am compelled to go this time. This oppression will backfire against the BJP in the upcoming assembly polls. People are fed up."
Earlier, the Election Commission summoned Ajay Bhattacharya, the co-chairman of the Howrah District Council, for an SIR hearing.
Choudhary said the hearing notice was sent to her Howrah residence through BLO. She said she was unaware of the reason for the summons and said she was shocked to receive such a hearing notice.
Choudhary is the daughter of the late Ambika Banerjee, a five-time MLA and MP from Howrah. She is the MLA of South Howrah and the president of the Howrah District Headquarters of Trinamool Women's Congress.
