  • Kolkata: Of the 30.3 lakh hearing notices issued by EC, 20.5 lakh have reached voters. Among them, 3.3 lakh voters have attended hearing and their cases were sorted out within a week after the hearing started on Dec 27, said Subrata Gupta, special roll observer of EC.

The EC initially found a discrepancy in data with 1.3 crore voters, but with the BLO App being upgraded and small errors being rectified at the EC's end, the mismatch reduced and it stood at 94.5 lakh voters. Among them, officials spotted name mismatch in the case of 51 lakh voters.

EC officials spotted 4.7 lakh voters whose age difference with parents was less than 15 years. There were 8.4 lakh voters with over 50 years of age difference with their fathers.

The CEO's office has asked EC if domicile certificates, which were earlier issued by senior state govt officials, can be accepted as a proof of identity. On Friday, Trinamool MP and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee mentioned about three voters at his Baruipur rally who were declared dead. "The EC has sought a report from DEO and if fault is found, action will be initiated against BLOs," an official said.
