• Man dies in Swarupnagar following SIR hearing

  • A man died on Thursday after suffering a heart attack on 27 December shortly after returning from a hearing related to the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, the police said.

    The incident took place in the Swarupnagar area of North 24-Parganas district.

    The deceased has been identified as Sultan Sardar, a 60-year-old resident of the area. Incidentally, his name was not included in the 2002 voter list.

    He had recently received a summons to appear for a hearing as part of the ongoing SIR process. Sultan died four days after returning from the hearing.

    The incident occurred at Swarupda village under Swarupnagar police station limits. According to family members, the elderly man suffered a cardiac arrest and died on Thursday morning.
