Kolkata: The inaugural Vietjet Thailand flight from Bangkok to Kolkata is scheduled to land in Kolkata on Saturday, with the return flight set to take off on Sunday. The airline had initially announced flights from Nov 16 but service was delayed due to the non-availability of aircraft.
On Saturday, the first flight is expected to touch down in Kolkata at 10.30 pm. It is then set to depart for Bangkok at 12.50 am on Sunday. The flight will operate four days a week, arriving on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and returning on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
Vietjet Thailand entered a crowded sector with five airlines, IndiGo Airlines, Thai Airways, Bhutan Airlines, Thai AirAsia, and Lion Air, vying for passengers. IndiGo also had a daily flight between Kolkata and Phuket.
Given the competition, Vietjet Thailand planned to use its three-class configuration as its trump card. "Vietjet is a low-cost airline but what sets it apart is the three-class service at different fares," said travel agent Anil Punjabi, who had received multiple enquiries about the airline.
