  • Kolkata: The Airport Police received a complaint alleging that loan recovery agents used criminal intimidation, obscene and sexual threats, and online harassment against a borrower and his family members, including a minor child, in connection with a personal loan, officials said on Saturday.

As per the complaint, the borrower alleged that the recovery agents, claiming to represent a lending company, began contacting him from Dec 13 and put pressure on him to repay dues despite his inability to clear the debt owing to unemployment. The complainant said he informed the lender and sought a settlement, but alleged that the recovery process escalated into threats and abuse.

The complaint alleges that the recovery agents contacted his family members, including his minor child. The complaint alleged he was abused, threatened of physical harm, besides threats of sexual violence directed to a woman member of his family. A fake Instagram account was created to allegedly post abusive and sexually threatening content publicly on a woman's social media profile, as per the complaint. Probe is on.
