  • Kolkata: It was back to the classroom, quite literally, for more than 1,000 students of South Point High School who attended classes conducted by former teachers on Saturday.

It was a ‘Back to School' day, organised by South Point Ex-Students' Association. The classes were taught by more than a dozen teachers, most of whom retired over two decades ago.

One of the oldest students was Ananda Sengupta from 1974 HS batch. "It feels great to be back in class and sitting on these very benches, albeit painted blue from the black of our times. The video projector in the classrooms is a welcome addition, blending modernity to the super-solid teaching by South Point teachers," he said.

During her mock class, 78-year-old Anuradha Goswami, a life science teacher who retired as the vice-principal of the school, requested, in a lighter vein, that her ‘doctor' students should drop their cards at her table for medical emergencies. She drew a detailed heart diagram on the whiteboard before being mobbed by her old students for duofies and groupfies.

In the evening, the alumni headed to the ground to listen to Suranjana Banerji from 1996 Madhyamik batch sing ‘Kaisi paheli zindagani'.
