Kolkata: Six policemen were injured after a mob attacked them while they were attempting to arrest a local TMC worker, Musa Mollah, in Boyarmari village under Sandeshkhali block-II.
Mollah, who was arrested, had been accused of illegally occupying waterbodies violating court orders. Cops arrested nine persons . The pradhan and upa-pradhan of Boyarmari-2 panchayat were also detained. A large police force was deployed, said a police officer. The injured cops were discharged from Minakhan Hospital. "It is alleged that some aides of jailed former Sandeshkhali strongman, Sheikh Shahjahan, attempted to carry out the illegal construction," the official added. In 2024, ED officials were attacked during a raid at Shahjahan's home. Though TMC has condemned the latest violence, the BJP slammed the state's ruling party. tnn
