Kolkata: The death of a 57-year-old woman and her 78-year-old caretaker under mysterious circumstances at Kalindi in Lake Town led the woman's daughter — residing in Lake Town and pursuing an MSc in biochemistry — to allege that her 65-year-old father, her aunt, and her 96-year-old grandmother were involved in the twin ‘murders.'
Based on the complaint lodged by the woman against her father's kin, who currently reside at Thakurpukur, the Lake Town Police are investigating the case after lodging a murder case. The initial post-mortem revealed that both were natural deaths, though the viscera report is pending. The chain of events date back to Dec 30, when residents of Kalindi Housing woke up to suspected foul play and reported it to police. The cops recovered the bodies and sent those to RG Kar Hospital, where as per records the victims were ‘brought dead.' "The body of the 78-year-old was maggot-infested and extremely rotten, hinting at death several days ago. The police claimed that the body of the 57-year-old gave the feeling that death was recent. Since she was dependent on the elderly man, it seemed that she could not fend for herself and passed away," said a senior police officer. When the cops went to lodge a suo motu case, the woman's young daughter and sister objected and wanted to lodge a murder complaint. According to the written complaint submitted by the girl, her mother lived away from her family since 2021, when the latter was allegedly persuaded during the COVID-19 period to move to another premises at Kalindi Housing Estate belonging to her father.
The complaint states the property was purchased earlier by her grandparents and that the move occurred without the daughter's knowledge. The complaint also alleges the woman had a history of serious illness and multiple surgeries and was neglected for years, including a lack of financial support for maintenance. The complainant said after learning her mother's location in 2025, an attempt was made to bring her back, but she refused.
The complaint alleges the elderly man living with her prevented her from leaving and subjected her to torture, acting in coordination with her father. Probe is on.
