Kolkata: A businessman operating from Hari Ram Goenka Street filed a case at Posta Police Station on Sunday, alleging a scam involving impersonation of senior govt officers and cheating in connection with an investment for a purported timber business, leading to a loss of Rs 12 lakh.
The complainant alleged the cons posed as IPS and Intelligence Bureau officers, and used official-looking documents to manipulate him. An FIR was filed under sections 204, 319(2), 318(4), 336(3), 340(2) and 61(2) of the BNS.
The victim said the crooks approached him between July 3 and Aug 16 at his offices in Kolkata and Siliguri. They induced him to invest money in a timber venture. The victim transferred Rs 11,50,000 to bank accounts linked to the accused. After the transfers, no profits were paid and the invested amount was not returned. tnn
