  • Kolkata: The Election Commission asked all state govt employees to submit a declaration that their names are not in the electoral roll of more than 1 assembly constituency. On Tuesday, govt officials from different depts started receiving the declaration format.

As per the directive mentioned in the format, if names of govt employees, their spouse, and progeny are mentioned in the electoral rolls of two assembly constituencies, they must get it deleted from one.

There are nearly 5 lakh govt employees in the state. Of them, 89,681 are working as BLOs, 14,000 as additional or assistant BLOs, around 2,940 assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs), and 294 EROs. As part of the SIR exercise, all state employees will need to fill in the declaration format and submit it to either the nodal officer for electoral roll matters or heads of their respective depts.
