Kolkata: Calcutta Boys' School and St Augustine's Day School, Shyamnagar, have decided to reschedule school hours to spare students the bitter early morning cold. Several other schools are also considering measures that is likely to be announced in the next day or two.
A notice issued by Calcutta Boys' School said, "Due to the ongoing cold wave, school will commence at 8.55 am instead of 7.55 am until further notice." It added that Wednesday will be a half day, with dispersal at 11.45 am, while from Thursday it will be a full day, closing at 1.30 pm.
Principal of St Augustine's Day School, Shyamnagar, Rodney Borneo, said the school will also start an hour later that usual from Wednesday, beginning at 8 am instead of 7 am. He said, "Considering the extreme cold for the last few days, we have decided to start an hour late from Wednesday."
Several other schools said they are discussing the matter internally and could decide on measures to adopt on Wednesday or Thursday.
