Bengal weather update today: Bengal is unlikely to see respite from the biting cold any time soon as the temperature could go down further. The cold wave conditions are likely to continue in West Bengal till January 9 at least as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Dense fog conditions also likely during morning hours in West Bengal.

On Monday, Kolkata recorded the coldest January day in 12 years, with the temperature dropping to 10.2 degrees Celsius. The temperature could now drop further. The Alipore RMC reported fog and mist likely to persist in Kolkata on Wednesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city are likely to be around 19°C and 10°C, respectively.
The fog in Kolkata could reduce visibility and affect flights, said India’s largest carrier IndiGo.
In North Bengal, dense fog reducing visibility is very likely to prevail in one or two places over all the districts of North Bengal on Wednesday. Cold day conditions are likely in Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar districts.
Similar weather conditions are likely to persist till the weekend.

South Bengal is likely to bear the brunt of the intense cold wave, especially in parts of Birbhum and East Burdwan districts on Wednesday. Cold day conditions are very likely to prevail over Hooghly, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, North and South 24 Parganas districts of South Bengal, as per the Alipore Regional Meteorological Centre.
Similar weather conditions are likely to persist till the weekend.
An orange warning will be in place for Birbhum and East Burdwan on Wednesday and Thursday.
