Kolkata: The north Kolkata residence of a senior citizen, Ila Banerjee, was allegedly looted after unknown miscreants broke into the premises at Vidyasagar Street and decamped with cash, jewellery, coins, household goods, and other belongings worth lakhs.
Banerjee lodged a written complaint with police on Wednesday after she discovered the burglary on returning home. She was at a relative's home for a couple of days, when the break-in possibly occurred sometime before Jan 7, she claimed.
She alleged that doors inside the house, including rooms on the lower portion and the first floor, were broken. She said valuables and papers were missing, and that items were found scattered across the house. The list of stolen property provided in the complaint includes cash of Rs 40,000, 12 silver Guinea coins; gold jewellery weighing approximately 20 gram; copper utensils; brass utensils; stainless steel utensils; among other items.
The complaint also includes contact details of those with access to her home. Police said they were checking CCTV footage and using local sources for leads.
