  • Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file an appeal against a single judge's order directing the formation of a joint special investigation team (SIT) with the state police to probe multiple FIRs against leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

Earlier, Justice Jay Sengupta had quashed 15 FIRs against Adhikari, lifted the protection granted to him against registration of FIRs, and ordered the transfer of four cases to a joint SIT comprising CBI and state police officials.

Challenging the directive for a joint probe, the CBI moved the division bench of acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and justice Partha Sarathi Sen, which granted permission to file the case.
