  • Kolkata: State IT and electronics minister Babul Supriyo on Thursday reviewed the progress of the Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub at New Town and inspected LTI Mindtree's upcoming project. He said three tech firms, including LTI Mindtree (formerly L&T Infotech), are set to start operations there soon.

"The overall built-up area of the campus is estimated to be approximately 3.7 lakh square feet, with a projected investment of around Rs 2,000–Rs 2,500 crore. A total of 41 firms were given land at the valley, while 7 of them constructed their buildings. The construction work of 31 other firms is going on now," the minister said.

According to Supriyo, LTI Mindtree was allotted about 18.9 acres at the tech hub. "The project envisages the development of a large-scale IT campus comprising a total of 6 towers, planned to be executed in phases. Based on the current pace of construction and visible on-site progress, Phase 1 of the project, which consists of 2 towers, is likely to be completed by April or May this year. The first 2 towers, once completed, are expected to accommodate nearly 7,000 IT professionals," he said.

Two more towers will come up in Phase II, with work expected to begin shortly and completion targeted for April 2027. "Once fully developed, the entire campus is expected to house approximately 25,000 IT professionals, significantly strengthening Bengal Silicon Valley as a major IT and technology employment hub," the minister added.
