KOLKATA: Police have arrested a man for allegedly sending a death threat to West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose, officials said on Friday.
The accused was picked up from the Salt Lake area near Kolkata late on Thursday and is currently being questioned, a senior official from Lok Bhavan said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused had sent threatening messages not only through email but also to Lok Bhavan’s official WhatsApp number. A detailed report on the incident has been forwarded to the Union home ministry.
The threat came to light on Thursday night after the governor received an email warning of an attempt to “blast” him. The sender had reportedly included his mobile number in the message.
Following the threat, security around Governor Bose was significantly tightened. He already has Z-plus security, and around 60 to 70 central armed police personnel are now deployed for his protection.
A senior officer of Kolkata Police said a review meeting was held to reassess security arrangements for the governor as well as the surrounding areas of Lok Bhavan.
