  • Kolkata: A block disaster management officer resigned from the post of assistant electoral registration officer (AERO) in the Bagnan assembly constituency in Howrah, citing logical discrepancies as a ‘ploy' to prevent a large number of marginal people from casting votes in upcoming elections.

The AERO, Mousam Sarkar, sent his resignation letter to the ERO. He stated, "Under the present circumstances prevailing after commencement of logical discrepancies in AERO login, I could no longer continue as an AERO. Logical discrepancies appeared in the BLO App due to sporadic errors in conversion of PDF of 2002 electoral roll. The spelling of names in 2002 was taken as sacrosanct but in reality. many names were corrected through Form 8 as per EC rules.

"In the same way, flaws in age and sex were also corrected. I think this kind of logical discrepancies does not make any sense and this a ploy to disenfranchise marginal people."
