Kolkata: The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has come up with a revised list of ‘fee car parking zones' in Salt Lake, adding eight new stretches and omitting four previously identified stretches to allot a total of 18 paid parking zones across the township. The zones have been finalised in consultation with the Bidhannagar traffic police, and the authorities are in the process of engaging agencies for allotting the ‘fee' parking zones on licence basis.
The civic authorities had previously identified 14 stretches as paid parking zones. The authorities have identified new stretches as fee parking zones, while some of the previously identified stretches have been omitted, keeping in view the trend of cars and bikes being parked on the stretches during daytime.
The new stretches which have been identified and added as ‘fee parking zones' are the side road between Sech Bhavan and Indira Bhavan, including Nagarayan, Telephone Bhavan and CGO Complex, both sides of GD Island to Labony Island, except a 25 metre stretch in front of "Banchharam", the stretch from near the gate of Mother International School to CL-34 excluding CK Market, the stretches adjoining Salt Lake Point School surrounding CD Park, the stretches surrounding Aurobindo Institute at BL Block including the stretch from near the school gate to BL Park, the stretches surrounding Hariyana Vidya Mandir and CA School, the stretch from Baisakhi Island to Tank No. 8 and the both-side stretch from St John School to Susrut Eye Hospital to Box Bridge via Calcutta Heart Clinic, including the Homoeopathy Hospital but excluding GD Market.
Among the stretches which were omitted from the previously identified paid parking zones are the both-flanks stretch from Bidyadhari School to Vidyasagar Island under the metro alignment, the stretch from Yellow Straw Shop to Shiva Temple at DB Block, both flanks on the stretch from Water Tank No 4 to CAP Island; and the stretch just in front of Rabindra Okakura Bhavan.
No parking will be allowed in front of the school gates, and only 15 minutes will be allowed for pick-up and drop-off for students.
Ten of the previously identified stretches remain as fee parking zones, like the service road from JC-25 to Aranya Bhaban (except in front of AMRI Hospital at KB-24), the surroundings of Lady Queen of the Mission and both-side HB Park, from Tank No 13 to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan via the middle road of Saurav Abasan and Falguni Abasan, and others.
BMC is to provide one mobile application which needs to be downloaded by the controlling person of each ‘car parking zone' for counting cars going in and out. "The civic authorities have the right to realign the zones in public interest in any mass event like puja or mela," said an official.
