‘Furnace mix-up’: FIR after man fails to receive mother’s ashes

Kolkata: A 49-year-old trader from Dum Dum, Radha Kanta Biswas, claimed that KMC staff at Nimtala Ghat crematorium ‘mixed up' the cremation furnace in which his mother was burnt and, in the process, failed to provide him and his siblings, the ashes of his mother, who passed away on Jan 8.
Calling it a case of ‘not just negligence but one that visibly hurt his sentiments and emotions', the victim filed an FIR with North Port police after the incident and called for a proper probe. He also requested police to ensure that the CCTV footage was not tampered with. According to Biswas, his mother, Putul Rani Biswas (79), was in ICU for 21 days.
Cops registered a case under BNS sections 301 and 54.
