  • Kolkata: Blue Line services were disrupted for 50 minutes on Sunday evening following a suicide attempt at Netaji Bhavan station. "Due to a suicide attempt at 6.32pm at Netaji Bhavan station, truncated services were operated between Maidan and Dakshineswar, and Shahid Khudiram and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stations. Normal services resumed on the entire corridor from 7.22pm," Metro Railway said in a statement.

Sources said a man attempted suicide by jumping in front of a moving train at Netaji Bhavan station. Metro staff took the route of a power block by switching off the third rail that supplies electricity to the rakes, and trains could not be run in the Maidan-Tollygunge section while the man was lifted out of the tracks.

"I came to Kudghat (Netaji station) around 6.45pm only to find that services were only running from Shahid Khudiram station to Tollygunge. I took an app cab to report to night duty. It cost me Rs 350," said Urmila Deb, a nurse in a private nursing home at Southern Avenue.

The Green Line (East-West Metro) is equipped with platform screen doors (PSD) that prevent people from jumping in front of running metro rakes.
