  • Kolkata: The five-member fact-finding committee probing the Constitution row at the International Relations (IR) dept at Jadavpur University submitted its report to the VC, stating that the findings were "inconclusive".

A senior official said, "The panel submitted report, and nothing was established, as the complainant's and the accused teacher's statements were completely contradictory. While the student stood her ground, the associate professor denied the charges and reportedly said the plaint was lodged to defame him. It was difficult to prove the allegations as there was no evidence or witnesses to the incident, as the conversation happened over a WhatsApp call, which could not be recorded."

A second-year IR dept student lodged a plaint against an associate professor, alleging that he made hateful comments against the Constitution and negated its authority by saying "to tear apart the Constitution and throw it into water". The student also alleged that the teacher attacked B R Ambedkar by saying, "What's the use of studying Ambedkar and his constitutional debates?" The panel was formed on Dec 16.

The report will also be sent to National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
