The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has announced a new security measure to prevent the forgery of mark sheets and pass certificates.

A senior official stated that ultraviolet (UV) security threads will be embedded in the higher secondary marksheets and pass certificates to enhance their security against forgery. According to officials, the UV threads will be invisible to the naked eye and can only be detected under UV light.

A senior official of the WBCHSE said that instead of using a single strip, multiple micro-threads will be incorporated in the marksheet. This enhancement will make it extremely difficult to duplicate or tamper with the marksheet or passing certificates.

“The multi-micro UV threads are only visible under a UV lamp or torch. The main intention is to prevent forgery, similar to security features used in currency notes,” said the official.

According to the official, the new security feature will be included in the final consolidated marksheet and pass certificates, which will be issued after the fourth semester examinations. According to senior officials, the council took this decision after reports surfaced of forged Class 12 documents.

According to officials, only a simple handheld inspection tool, a UV light, is required. The primary purpose of incorporating UV security threads, along with other advanced security measures, is to enhance the authenticity and integrity of educational documents.

“This helps to address the widespread issue of forged mark sheets and certificates. As a result, institutions, employers, and foreign universities can easily verify the genuineness of these documents,” said the official.

With the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls ongoing in West Bengal, mark sheets and passing certificates are required for those who have been called for hearings after missing the draft rolls.
