  • Chandrakona: Leader of the opposition in Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday led a rally in West Midnapore's Chandrakona Road to protest against the attack on his convoy three days back. Adhikari also moved Calcutta HC demanding a CBI probe. The HC admitted the plea.

Speaking at the rally, Adhikari alleged, "The leader of the opposition belongs not just to the party, but is the voice of the oppressed. That is why I turned my car around and sat in the police station from 8.30pm to 1.30am. I said that day I would return on Tuesday to protest. Today, you didn't see a single TMC member on the streets." Adhikari also alleged, "They have filed a non-bailable case against me and made me an accused, while the charges I filed were not given the same weight. Can you scare me like this? No, you cannot."

Adhikari's petition in the HC alleged that he was a Z-category protectee who gets CAPF cover, but it is the responsibility of local police that the routes his convoy take are secure. Justice Suvra Ghosh admitted the petition, though the date of the first hearing was not scheduled as yet.

Adhikari in his FIR alleged he was attacked by Trinamool workers around 7.30pm on Saturday. Adhikari staged a sit-in at the Chandrakona outpost for about five hours and left after filing a complaint against eight Trinamool workers around 1.30 am. An attempted murder case was later registered against him at Garbeta police station. Police are probing both incidents.
