Kolkata: The state govt has allocated more land in New Town for the development of residential housing projects. The West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation will e-auction 10 large plots, measuring around 4.7 acres on a freehold basis for residential purposes.
Officials said all the plots, which are going to be auctioned, measure between 1,500 sq m to 2,000 sq m and are located in Action Area II. The auctions are scheduled to take place next month. The authorities are inviting offers from eligible corporate bodies registered under the Companies Act, and registered trusts or societies.
Officials said the township has a planned population of 10 lakh, with a proposed additional floating population of five lakh. "Around 12,000 dwelling units were already constructed, and a further 16,000 dwelling units are under construction. It is expected that the town shall have around 2 lakh dwelling units catering to the housing requirements of the planned population in due course," said an official.
