Kolkata: A 42-year-old man was arrested in Tiljala area of Kolkata after he was accused of attempting to murder his stepdaughter by repeatedly striking her on the head with a hammer during a late-night assault on Tuesday, police said. The accused, who was in an inebriated state, started beating the woman following an argument and also allegedly attempted to disrobe her, police sources said.
The woman suffered severe bleeding as she was hit on the head. On hearing the victim scream, neighbours rushed to the residence and saved her, police said. The locals alerted Tiljala Police Station (PS). Cops took the injured woman to hospital.
"I received 13 stitches," the woman stated in her complaint. The accused is in police custody. Cops are collecting medical documents as part of the ongoing probe to ascertain if more charges will be added to the case. tnn
