  • Mahishadal (East Midnapore): After 33-year-old Sudharam Senapati, a goldsmith from Sarberia village in Mahishadal, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Mumbai last week, his mother, Alpana Senapati, has appealed to CM Mamata Banerjee to help bring her son's mortal remains home.

Sources said Sudharam had been working as a goldsmith in Mumbai for several years. He spent last Sunday with his friends. When he did not show up for work on Monday, a search was launched. His body was found near the tracks at Govandi railway station and handed over to cops.

Alpana said, "I lost my husband years ago. My son was my only hope. Now, his body is lying in a morgue thousands of miles away. I have no means to bring him back."

Sudharam's family said they had approached local authorities to help bring her son's remains back, but they had suggested Alpana to go to Mumbai to complete formalities, which would be both financially and logistically impossible for her. "Our CM is known for her humanitarian approach towards migrant workers. I beg her to intervene so that my son's body can be returned," Alpana said.

Panchayat pradhan Debabrata Chakraborty said, "We informed Mahishadal PS. We have requested the administration to coordinate with authorities in Maharashtra."
