• 3 held for running fake note print unit in Kolkata

  • Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested three men for running a manufacturing unit of counterfeit Indian currency notes in connection to two operations conducted at Patuli and Sonarpur on Wednesday and Thursday. The fake notes and equipment were seized.

    On Wednesday afternoon, cops detained Alok Nag alias Bapi (58) and Ayan Nag alias Biki (33) — both residents of Sonarpur under Narendrapur Police Station (PS) — and Shyam Babu Paswan (36) of Titagarh under Khardah PS in an operation at Patuli PS area. Police said fake notes worth Rs 9,200 were recovered from their possession. They were arrested from the spot around 5.50 pm. Cops registered a case at STF PS under BNS sections 178, 179, 180, 181, and 61(2).

    Based on the statements of Alok and Ayan, an STF team early on Thursday, in another search, "unearthed" an alleged fake note unit from the ground floor of rented house, linked to Alok, and owned by Shyamal Kumar Roy at Ramkrishna Pally in Rajpur, Sonarpur, under Narendrapur PS, police said.

    Cops recovered fake notes worth Rs 15,200 from the premises. The accused have been sent to police custody until Jan 28 after being produced in court.
